The beta 9.1 install is hanging on my machine at the "Preparing to replace bluecherry....." line.
I tried a couple of times with the same issue.

Which version of Ubuntu is this system using? If you're not sure, it should say in "cat /etc/issue".

Answer
This sounds like an instance of bug #912 (http://improve.bluecherrydvr.com/issues/912), which causes the start/stop commands to hang - and as a result, the whole install process. The easiest workaround is to open another terminal, run 'ps ax', and, as root, kill the 'start bluecherry' or 'stop bluecherry' process. You'll probably need to do that twice during the upgrade, but it should work fine afterwards.
That bug is scheduled to be fixed in beta 9.2. Let me know how that works for you.
