Upgrading between Bluecherry releases

All Bluecherry official releases can easily be downloaded from the Bluecherry repository.  There are two ways to download updates, one from the Ubuntu Package Manager and the second from the command line.  Instructions for both are included below.

Both steps require that you switch to either the XFCE Desktop, or to a terminal window.

It is required that you restart the server after upgrading between releases

Option One - Updating from with in XFCE:

- Switch to virtual terminal 7.  You can do this by holding down control alt F7.  You may be asked to login, if so enter the login and password information that you created during installation.

You should see a red arrow in the top corner.  Hovering over this icon should display the total updates that need to be installed.  It's best to right click on this icon and select 'Check for updates'.  Once this completes then click on this red icon

At the bottom of this window you should see bluecherrydvr-server and bluecherrydvr-common in the list of available updates.  It is not necessary to click on the any of the updates in the list unless you want to see specific information about the update.  Selecting 'Install Updates' will download all packages and install them.  This could take quiet a while.

Option 2 - Install updates from a terminal window

Select Accessories -> Terminal

Type: sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

All of the available packages will be shown.  Type 'Y' to start the upgrade process.  If you receive a warning about packages can not be authenticated it's safe to type 'Y'.

Upgrade FAIL.

errors were encountered while processing: bluecherrydvr-server_0.97-4_i386.deb.

No further details available yet; wanted to express frustration that the process isn't perfect.

Matthew,

I don't believe you've opened a ticket, so please open one so we can look at the problem.  Make sure to include the full output from the upgrade (something more then what you posted here).  As part of our quality assurance testing we test the previous releases prior to releasing the latest to the public.  We have not encountered this problem ourselves and without any further details we can't begin to resolve this problem for you.

Thanks
